Lunar Nodes and Spiritual Purpose

The Lunar Nodes in a Natal Chart are not planetary bodies but are theoretical points in the sky where the moon’s orbit and the ecliptic converged at the time of birth. There are two nodes, the North Node and the South Node, always opposite one another.  Opposite signs in astrology are good teachers for one another as they each have what the other one lacks.  Together they can find balance and enrich each other with their opposite qualities.

The Lunar Nodes have a spiritual connotation, with the South Node associated with past lives and karma, and the North Node associated with our future karma and spiritual destiny.

The South Node represents our unfinished business from the past such as opportunities not pursued, dues we haven’t paid, and things we haven’t quite brought to fruition.  This is our unresolved karma. The South Node energy feels familiar, safe and comfortable to us as we have been here before which is why we begin this lifetime acting out our South Node.

But if we stay living our South Node for too long we can begin to feel stuck.  Life becomes repetitive and we feel like we are not moving forward.  We cannot complete this lesson, or resolve this karma, with more of the same.  We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.  Instead we need to look to the opposite direction, the North Node, for guidance.

The North Node is the unknown territory, the unfamiliar, the risk zone, but it is the energies displayed by our North Node placement that we need to embrace and master to move forward. We can only address and unlock our South Node past karma by focusing on the North Node attributes.

When we start living with the North Node as our compass we find our lives will start to flow in perfect alignment with the universe.  This is where we find our spiritual purpose for this lifetime, by embracing our North Node.
